Exploring Accreditation
The value and feasability of developing a voluntary national public health accreditation program is being seriously considered.
The Exploring Accreditation project will make recommendations on how such a program could be developed and implemented at
the state and local levels.

Operational Definition of a Local Health Agency

Over the last couple year's NACCHO has been working with its national partners to develop an operational definition of a local
health department. The hard work of several steering committees, expert panels and town hall meetings has resulted in the
shared understanding of what every community, no matter how large or small, can reasonably expect from their local health
department.
State Standards of Performance
Several states have developed standards for public health practice, performance and/or improvement of local health departments.
